Welcome to the Betz Family Winery

Since our first vintage in 1997 we've had a single goal of crafting compelling wines with individual character, wines that reflect the vineyards the grapes come from and our dedication to them.  With each vintage we understand the land more, tweak our cellar operations and enjoy the realization of our goal.

Washington's Columbia Valley has conditions unlike anywhere else in the US: long days, cool nights, northern latitude, low fertility soils.  The 30,000+ acres of wine grapes and 600+ wineries now attest to the reality of the promises made here decades ago.  Washington and its wines are no longer curiosities, but have taken their place alongside the distinguished vineyards and wines of the world.

We've been fortunate to be part of this evolution, starting in the Washington wine community in 1975.  Our "research" here and in nearly every vineyard region in the US and Europe since then keeps us coming back to the natural character of Washington wines. They're a blend of the best elements of the new and old worlds: full, ripe fruit, yet textured for food and structured for longevity. We hope you enjoy them.

Betz Family 2006 La Serenne Syrah
95 points, ranked #4 in the Wine Enthusiast's "Top 100 Cellar Selections of the Year"

"Our editors select the most ageable wines of the year...  In years to come, these wines will begin to offer depth and complexity other wines can only envy. The get older and better---a powerful combination."

"Toasty, dense, dark and complex, this is suffusedy, young and tight, it opens out with decanting, turni with a complex mix of coffee, butterscotch, cherry and mineral, with an underlayer of game, roasted almond, herb and earth.  Still a baby, young and tight, it opens out with decanting, turning silky and supple. The balance is impeccable."

Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
December 2009

"Betz Family Winery remains one of Washington’s benchmarks for top quality wines from Rhone and Bordeaux grape varieties. Bob Betz’s 2007 collection shows him continuing at the top of his game (with plenty of help from his family)."

Betz Family Winery 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Père de Famille
95 points

"Purple/black in color it reveals a brooding aromatic array of wood smoke, scorched earth, pencil lead, violets, black currant and blackberry. Full-bodied on the palate, it is a bit more dense, opulent, and succulent than the Clos de Betz, admirably combining elegance and power. The pure finish lasts for over 60-seconds. It will offer a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2027."
